40 Deja Vue

There is trick photography at play here. This was shot in the heat of the northern Jordanian summer in Zaatari, yet I am shocked by the sense of ‘cinema light’ in the background so favoured by the European dictators of 75 years ago. And in the young man’s despair, the universal despair of the excluded, he finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Print Editions:
The Hotel Zaatari photographs were taken in the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan by the internationally acclaimed photographers Anthony Dawton and Jim Macfarlane. The photographs are important works of art and stand as a testament to a people that are lost and shunned by the rest of the world. Their longing to be heard and seen, and most of all understood underlies the theme of Dawton and Macfarlane’s work.
